I was in the first grade, 6 years old. They sent us home from school. My school was up the street from my house. They didn't tell the 1st graders, they thought it would be better told to us by our parents. I remember watching tv (black & white) and seeing the funeral with little Jon Jon saluting when the flag covered casket went by. I remember it was on a flat wagon drawn by a horse or horses. I thought that was strange because my aunt's casket was in a hurse. It is really amazing what little things you remember as a child.

I had just come home from school. I was a junior. My parents just had to go grocery shopping and we were standing in the check out line when the announcement came over the loud speaker that Kennedy had died. You could of heard a pin drop in that big store. I just cried and cried. I haven't felt that strong about a president until this year. Hopefully that  won't happen to him. I pray for him everyday.  Nancy

When Bobby was going across country his train stopped briefly in North Platte and I had a super 8 movie camers and got a few feet of him and his wife, She had on a red suit.....Beth

I'm a tad older than most of you guys.....I was living in Florida (St. Petersburg) and working for National Yellow Pages/General Telephone......I was in my early 20's.  I was at work and it was announced and everyone started crying.....I think we were sent home early and we watched the TV non-stop all weekend......it was such a shock and so very sad.  It was the day after my brother's birthday and I know he will never forget it and neither will I.  One of the darkest days in the history of this country.

I was in high school History class.  I was a junior.  An announcement came over the PA, everyone was devestated.  We had 5 minutes of silence, we talked about the repercussions and then we were dismissed.

This is a day we will always remember where we were.  Like the day the space shuttle blew up, and the day the towers were flown into.

i had just given my two children their lunch and put the baby down for his nap , when i came back into the living room the tv was showing the parade. i sat in total numbness when he was shot. i kept thinking that surely he would be ok, after all he was the president , and then when they announced that he had died i cried.was a sad time in the U. george-thank you! i thought of it after i had shut the computer down yesterday on our way out the door-

i was in 4th grade and for some reason i was in on one of the beds in the school nurses' room when the announcement came over the PA.i went back to the classroom- felt that i had to be with my peers--we sat in shock....i had some very awesome "old school" teachers -and Mrs Paule used that time well.

my mom and brother and i spent hours glued to the B&W tv watching the funeral procession etc..how beautiful -stately-the hearse and the horses -i vividly remember johnjohn saluting....actually i remember election nite when JFK won-my adopted mom was staunch republican and about had a fit--tho she was saddened by the death of our president!

last year on our GTXGTSP (i'm sure i forgot a letter!!) janet took us to dealey (sp?) plaza and we toured the museum -awesome--when i stood at the spot in the museum where they play the gunshot in your ear-OMG--i cannot explain the chill---and the memories that flooded back.....and ,of course, much more appreciated now as an adult.

interesting to learn where all of my sisiers and brothers were--as a child one does not think about other folks and how they mark a tragedy or triump!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

45 years ago.....I was a very young eight.  I was in second grade in a Catholic School. We were told that we needed to pray for our president, so we lined up and marched across the street to the church.  I believe we said the Rosary and then our parents came to pick us up, must have been an early out (?)  Back then I didn't really realize the impact.......nothing was talked about at home.  I am the oldest of six children and we were way to dysfunctional!!!

The Challenger, I remember I was on the phone with a friend, January 28th is our wedding anniversary, the TV was on..........I hung up, watched and prayed!

Thanks for the memories!!

I was in 5th or 6th grade, sitting in class when the announcement that our President had been shot.
I had never seen my teachers (nuns) cry before, they were always so strict and sober.
The school sent us all home and we watched on TV for hours what took place after. We all cried.
Every year since when this day comes I remember.
I don't think I will ever forget how this country mourned.

Thanks for posting.

I was sitting in study hall at high school. It was announced over the PA system. First there was complete silence, then sobbing could be heard all around the room.
